| This volume completes the transcriptions of the Villa family recordings, and begins an emphasis on songs that Charles Lummis recorded from Adalaida Cordero Higuera Kamp. Transcriptions of pieces from Doña Adalaida have not been previously available. They include a great many pieces that were part of the repertoire of José de la Rosa, a prominent personality and musician who came to California with the Híjar-Padrés party. | Since the enhanced digital versions of Charles Lummis’ Edison wax cylinders are still not available, there is nothing further that I can transcribe from that source at this time. So this volume has moved to an alternate focus. A large number of the pieces are dance dance tunes from the Joseph María García Manuscript, a Mexican dance master’s fake book from 1772, now in the collection of the Southwest Museum. In addition, this volume includes the remaining pieces from the song folio, Old Spanish Songs: As sung by Sra. Da. María Jimeno de Arata, compiled and arranged by Antoni van der Voort and published in 1928. | ||
